Matt Axton is a West Coast-based singer/songwriter, guitarist and band leader.
Matt’s sound is a " humble slice of Americana," an earthy mix of folk, roots, country, blues, and rock. This balance of foot tapping rhythm and lyrical depth make Matt's original music stand out in a sea of similar sounds. Matt's calm yet commanding storytelling combined with his distinct baritone voice and finger picking guitar style resonate with lovers of contemporary and traditional music flavors alike.
Matt's eclectic style was grown in the mountains of Tahoe and proudly honed in the heart of the Axton Musical Legacy. Matt’s grandmother, Mae Boren Axton aka “The Queen Mother Of Nashville”, co-penned Elvis Presley’s first chart topping hit “Heartbreak Hotel” while Matt's father, Hoyt Axton, was a musical powerhouse in the folk-country-rock scenes writing chart-topping songs like “Joy to the World,” “Never Been to Spain,” “The Pusher” and many more. This cemented the Axton legacy in history with Mae and Hoyt as the only parent and child to independently write #1 hits.
Boasting over 300 original songs of his own, Matt is proudly following in the family footsteps. Matt is making his own mark in the independent Americana scene with a single and video release of his bittersweet and bright country love song Blue Sky Rain, followed by successful 2022 tours and his current Blue Sky Rain tour. Look for Matt Axton’s in 2023 launch of multiple song releases and collaborations with bluegrass - country and rock mainstays.
